RAWALPINDI, September 27 — Pakistan Navy’s newly inducted Hangor-class submarine has successfully carried out its first live weapon firing, hitting a designated long-range target with an anti-ship cruise missile in the North Arabian Sea, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), PNS/M Hangor accurately engaged the target during its maiden live weapon firing, marking a key operational milestone for the newly inducted submarine.
Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf witnessed the live firing and praised the submarine’s combat capabilities and operational readiness.
The naval chief highlighted the strategic importance of strengthening Pakistan Navy’s subsurface warfare capabilities as part of efforts to maintain credible maritime deterrence.
The successful firing demonstrated the submarine’s ability to engage targets at extended ranges using an anti-ship cruise missile and showcased the operational capabilities of the Navy’s latest addition to its submarine fleet, according to ISPR.
Pakistan Navy said the milestone reflected its efforts to maintain a modern and combat-ready force capable of safeguarding the country’s maritime frontiers.
It added that strengthening underwater capabilities remains important to Pakistan’s maritime defence posture and its stated objective of contributing to peace and stability in the region.
