KARACHI, Jan 6: Pakistan Navy is facilitating a Pakistan–China Joint Oceanographic Cruise aimed at advancing marine scientific research and understanding of the North Arabian Sea. The mission is being conducted by the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in collaboration with China’s Second Institute of Oceanography (SIO), with support from the National Hydrographic Office.

The Navy has deployed its survey vessel, PNS Behr Masah, to assist the scientific team. Officials said the initiative underscores Pakistan’s commitment to promoting maritime awareness and enabling research that strengthens national capacity in oceanography.

The joint cruise represents a significant step in scientific cooperation between Pakistan and China. Researchers are focusing on coastal and offshore marine dynamics in Pakistani waters, with findings expected to improve assessment of environmental patterns and support informed maritime planning and policymaking.

Authorities noted that the collaboration contributes to a broader regional understanding of oceanographic conditions in the North Arabian Sea, reinforcing the value of sustained partnerships in marine science.
