Pakistan, Kuwait reaffirm energy cooperation with focus on fuel imports and bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Kuwait have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening energy cooperation, with Kuwait assuring facilitation for Pakistani vessels importing diesel and jet fuel. The development came during a meeting between Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and Kuwait’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Nassar Abdulrahman Jasser Almutairi.

The Pakistan Kuwait energy ties were discussed in the context of long-standing bilateral relations and ongoing collaboration in the petroleum sector, which officials say remains critical for Pakistan’s energy security.

Focus on fuel supply and facilitation

During the meeting, the petroleum minister expressed appreciation to Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) for assuring full facilitation to Pakistani-flagged vessels for the lifting of diesel and jet fuel.

He also conveyed gratitude for Kuwait’s continued support to Pakistan, particularly in the energy sector, and requested that his regards be shared with Kuwait’s Minister of Oil Tariq Suleiman Ahmed Al-Roumi and KPC CEO Sheikh Nawaf Al Sabah.

Longstanding bilateral relationship

The minister highlighted that Pakistan and Kuwait share decades-long ties, noting that Pakistan has been importing petroleum products from Kuwait for over 50 years. He described the relationship as rooted in mutual trust and longstanding cooperation.

He also emphasised Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability, stating that the country supports peaceful resolution of conflicts and is engaged in facilitating essential supplies where needed in coordination with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Kuwait acknowledges Pakistan’s role

The Kuwaiti ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting peace and stability, acknowledging the efforts of the government, people and armed forces in supporting peaceful solutions during challenging times.

Both sides agreed to continue close engagement and explore further opportunities to expand cooperation, particularly in the energy sector and other areas of mutual interest.
