KABUL: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani has reiterated that diplomatic, political, and moral support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination remains a key pillar of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
Addressing a Youm-e-Istehsal ceremony held at the Pakistan Embassy in Kabul on August 5, Ambassador Nizamani said Pakistan would continue raising the issue of Kashmir and advocating for what it described as the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people at international forums.
The ambassador said Pakistan remains committed to highlighting the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), adding that Kashmiris continue to resist what he termed attempts to alter the demographic composition of the region.
Pakistan Highlights Kashmir Issue at International Forums
Ambassador Nizamani said India had not gained domestic or international acceptance for its actions in Jammu and Kashmir, claiming that restrictions and policies in the region had further strengthened the resolve of Kashmiris.
He said Pakistan’s position on Kashmir remains consistent and that the country will continue pursuing diplomatic efforts regarding the dispute.
During the ceremony, messages from President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar were also read out.
A documentary highlighting Pakistan’s perspective on developments in Jammu and Kashmir was also screened for participants during the event.
The Youm-e-Istehsal ceremony was held to commemorate August 5, 2019, when India revoked the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir, an action that remains a major point of dispute between Pakistan and India.
