ISLAMABAD — Pakistan has increased the price of jet fuel used by commercial airlines by Rs154 per litre, pushing the rate to a record Rs342.37 per litre and raising concerns about possible increases in airfares.

According to official figures, the new jet fuel price in Pakistan has risen from Rs188.93 per litre to Rs342.37 per litre, representing an increase of about 82 percent. The sharp rise is expected to significantly affect airline operating costs, which are heavily influenced by fuel prices.

Industry sources say the increase could lead airlines to adjust ticket prices, with potential fare hikes of up to Rs5,000 on some routes.

Impact on airline operations

Jet fuel is one of the largest operating expenses for airlines, and significant changes in fuel prices can directly affect ticket pricing and airline profitability.

Aviation industry representatives said carriers may review their fare structures in response to the latest increase in fuel costs. Airlines operating domestic and international routes from Pakistan could pass part of the additional cost on to passengers.

Possible effect on ticket prices

With jet fuel prices reaching record levels, aviation analysts expect airlines to evaluate pricing strategies in the coming weeks.

While no official fare adjustments have been announced, industry sources indicated that ticket prices could rise by up to Rs5,000 depending on route distance, airline policies and overall operating costs.

The increase in aviation fuel prices comes at a time when airlines are already facing pressure from global energy market volatility and operational expenses.
