ISLAMABAD, September 16, 2026: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has formally asked the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) to either relocate the Men’s Asian Champions Trophy 2026 from India or shift all of Pakistan’s matches to a neutral venue.
PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani said the request was made in view of the current sensitive bilateral situation between Pakistan and India and security considerations.
According to Wani, the proposed change is intended to provide Pakistan’s players and officials with a safe and suitable environment during the tournament.
PHF Says It Remains Committed to Tournament
Wani said Pakistan remains committed to the Asian Champions Trophy and the broader development of international hockey.
He also said Pakistan is prepared to play against India and other FIH member nations, emphasizing the federation’s stated position that sport should remain separate from politics.
The request comes shortly after Wani said Pakistan’s participation in the India-hosted tournament remained subject to government clearance.
Tournament Currently Scheduled in India
The 2026 Men’s Asian Champions Trophy is currently scheduled to take place from October 27 to November 5 in India.
According to Hockey India, league-stage matches are scheduled for Jalandhar, while the semi-finals and final will be played in Mohali. Pakistan is among the six teams listed for the tournament alongside India, South Korea, Malaysia, China and Japan.
The proposed Pakistan-India match is currently scheduled for November 1 in Jalandhar.
The final decision on the PHF’s neutral-venue request will rest with the relevant hockey authorities.
