Pakistan’s Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has chosen not to draw a government salary since assuming office, according to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Finance.
The ministry confirmed that Aurangzeb has not taken any monthly salary from the national treasury since he took oath as finance minister and later as a senator on March 11, 2024. Officials said he has decided to continue foregoing the salary voluntarily.
A formal letter signed by Aurangzeb confirming the decision has been issued, and the Director of Finance has informed the Cabinet Secretary about the arrangement.
In the written confirmation, the finance minister stated that he has not drawn a salary since the day he assumed office as Minister for Finance and Revenue and took oath as a senator.
He added that he intends to continue this practice by voluntarily foregoing the salary attached to both positions.

The official notification clarified that Aurangzeb’s decision applies to the financial benefits normally allocated to federal ministers and members of the Senate.
Aurangzeb, who previously served in the banking sector before entering government, joined the federal cabinet earlier this year and later took oath as a senator before assuming the finance portfolio.
