ISLAMABAD, March 30: The federal government has ruled out any shortage of fertilizers ahead of the upcoming Kharif season, assuring farmers that sufficient stocks of urea and DAP are available to meet agricultural needs across the country.
The assurance came during a meeting of the Fertilizer Review Committee chaired by Rana Tanveer Hussain, where officials reviewed fertilizer availability, distribution, and pricing in the lead-up to peak sowing months.
Officials from the Ministry of National Food Security and Research informed the meeting that urea supplies are expected to remain adequate throughout the season, with carryover stocks projected at around 570,000 tonnes by the end of Kharif.
Similarly, DAP stocks are estimated to remain stable, with approximately 96,000 tonnes available until the end of July, ensuring uninterrupted supply during critical farming periods.
Govt warns against hoarding, price manipulation
The minister directed all stakeholders to ensure timely and efficient distribution of fertilizers, stressing that products must reach farmers without delays.
He warned that strict action would be taken against any attempts to hoard fertilizers or artificially increase prices, emphasizing the government’s commitment to maintaining market stability.
Global volatility, local stability
Officials noted that despite volatility in international fertilizer markets, Pakistan has managed to maintain price stability through policy interventions aimed at protecting farmers.
The meeting also reviewed supply chain and logistics arrangements to ensure smooth transportation and availability of fertilizers across all regions. Provincial representatives expressed satisfaction over current supply conditions and coordination with the federal government.
Focus on agriculture support
The minister reiterated that the government remains committed to supporting farmers and strengthening the agriculture sector. He said continuous monitoring through regular review meetings would help ensure stable fertilizer supply and pricing.
