Pakistan, Canada discuss cooperation in medical education and specialist training

Ottawa: Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Canada, Muhammad Saleem, held a meeting with senior officials of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada to explore cooperation in postgraduate medical education, accreditation, and specialist training.

The discussions come as Pakistan seeks to strengthen healthcare capacity and align medical training with international standards.

During the meeting with Craig Ceppetelli, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, both sides reviewed opportunities for collaboration in professional training and capacity building within the healthcare sector.

Focus on postgraduate training and institutional linkages

The two sides also discussed potential institutional linkages between the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan, aimed at enhancing specialist training and accreditation frameworks.

The High Commissioner informed the Canadian side about the upcoming International Medical Education Conference scheduled to be held in Karachi in February 2026, highlighting it as a platform for further engagement between medical education institutions.

Officials noted that strengthened cooperation in medical education could contribute to improved healthcare outcomes and professional standards in Pakistan.
