The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) is set to participate in the sixth edition of the Lahore Science Mela (LSM), reaffirming its commitment to promoting scientific curiosity and public engagement. Organized by the Khwarizmi Science Society (KSS), the two-day event will take place this weekend at Crescent Model Higher Secondary School, Lahore.
PAEC spokesperson Dr. Rashid Mehmood has invited families, especially those in Lahore, to attend the Mela and explore the wide range of exhibits. “Promoting scientific thought and encouraging curiosity in youth is a joint responsibility,” he said, adding that the event offers valuable learning opportunities for people of all ages.
PAEC to Highlight National and Global Contributions
At this year’s Mela, PAEC will present interactive displays showcasing its work in energy production, mineral exploration, agriculture, and healthcare. A key highlight will be the exhibit on Pakistan’s collaboration with CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, reflecting the country’s growing role in global scientific research.
Dr. Mehmood emphasized that the Mela is not limited to students or children, but is designed to engage visitors from all walks of life. “This is an opportunity to ignite curiosity and promote a love for scientific discovery,” he said. PAEC’s continued participation reflects its long-standing support for science outreach and education.
Lahore Science Mela Continues to Inspire
Since its launch in 2017, the Lahore Science Mela has grown into one of Pakistan’s most prominent public science events. With the exception of pandemic-related disruptions, it has been held annually, attracting tens of thousands of visitors. Last year’s edition drew more than 100,000 attendees, and organizers expect similar turnout this weekend.
The 2025 Mela will feature a diverse lineup of science and technology exhibitors, including planetarium shows, laser demonstrations, interactive workshops, and auditorium talks by leading scientists and educators. Entry is free and open to all.
Building a Culture of Curiosity
KSS General Secretary Dr. Muhammad Sabieh Anwar, who pioneered the Mela, said the event aims to foster a culture of science in Pakistan by making it accessible and engaging. PAEC’s involvement, he noted, reflects the importance of institutional support in building public trust and interest in scientific research.
As Pakistan looks to strengthen its science and technology sectors, events like the Lahore Science Mela play a vital role in bridging the gap between research institutions and the public—bringing science out of the lab and into everyday life.
