As part of a large-scale post-Eid sanitation campaign, the Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC) Swat successfully concluded a massive clean-up operation across Mingora city, collecting and disposing of over 2,000 tonnes of sacrificial waste during the three days of Eid ul Azha. According to WSSC spokesperson Shaista Hakim, more than 600 sanitation workers and over 100 vehicles were deployed for the operation. The company had cancelled all staff holidays to ensure uninterrupted service, with field teams working in multiple shifts to clear waste from streets, neighbourhoods, and public spaces.

Tragically, during the course of duty, one WSSC driver, Muhammad Amin, a resident of Rajabad Mingora, fell critically ill and was immediately shifted to a hospital. Despite medical efforts, he could not survive. WSSC officials expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family, calling the deceased a “dedicated worker who lost his life in service to the public.” The company stated that support and compensation for the grieving family were being arranged. In addition to waste removal, city-wide washing and disinfection efforts were carried out using water tankers and lime powder. “The entire city was cleaned, washed, and sanitised to ensure public hygiene,” said the WSSC spokesperson.

Residents of Mingora lauded the efforts of the sanitation teams, noting the visible improvement in cleanliness despite the heavy influx of waste during Eid. Many praised the workers for their dedication and round-the-clock commitment, even during the festive holidays. Special focus was placed on congested areas and major roads, while supervisory staff remained on-ground to monitor quality control throughout the operation. The campaign concluded with a final round of washing and sanitation on the third day of Eid. WSSC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining cleanliness across the city, particularly during the busy tourist season, and urged citizens to cooperate in keeping Swat clean.
