ISLAMABAD — Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a second oil and gas discovery within two days, this time at the Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well in the Nashpa Block, Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company confirmed that testing at the well revealed oil production of 225 barrels per day (BOPD) and gas flow of 1.01 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).
The discovery was made in the Lumshiwal formation after conducting a Cased Hole Drill Stem Test (CHDST-04). The well was spud on December 30, 2024, and drilled to a total depth of 5,170 metres, targeting multiple formations including Lockhart, Hangu, Lumshiwal, Samana Suk, Shinawari, Datta and Kingriali.
OGDCL operates the Nashpa Exploration License with a 65 percent working interest, alongside joint venture partners Pakistan Petroleum Limited (30 percent) and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (5 percent carried interest).

According to the company, positive test results were recorded in the Kingriali, Datta and Samana Suk plus Shinawari formations, reinforcing the hydrocarbon potential of the block.
Contribution to energy supply
OGDCL said the Baragzai X-01 discovery is expected to help narrow Pakistan’s energy supply-demand gap by increasing indigenous oil and gas production. The company added that the find will contribute to expanding its hydrocarbon reserves base and strengthening domestic energy security.
The announcement follows a separate discovery made a day earlier at the Dars West-3 well in Tando Allah Yar, Sindh.
At Dars West-3, OGDCL reported gas production of 9.70 MMSCFD along with 580 barrels per day (BPD) of condensate from the Lower Goru C-Sand reservoir. The well was drilled to a depth of 2,100 metres and recorded a wellhead flowing pressure of 1,725 psi, indicating strong reservoir performance.
Pipeline laying is underway to connect Dars West-3 to the KPD-TAY processing plant. Once completed, the processed gas will be injected into the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) network, adding additional volumes to the national gas supply system.
OGDCL described both discoveries as encouraging developments that underscore the continued exploration potential of Pakistan’s domestic oil and gas resources.
