North Waziristan elders discuss security, public issues with GOC Seven Division

PESHAWAR: A representative delegation of Utmanzai elders, religious scholars, political leaders and traders from North Waziristan held a jirga with GOC Seven Division Major General Iftikhar Adil Warraich to discuss security, public issues and business-related concerns in the district.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner North Waziristan Yousaf Karim, DPO Sajjad Hussain and Colonel Bilal. The jirga focused on law and order, reconstruction of damaged mosques, completion of development projects, release of detained persons, curfew-related matters and restoration of business activities in Datta Khel Bazaar.

Malik Sanaullah Hamzoni, Chairman of the Traders Community, said detailed discussions were held on issues affecting residents and traders in North Waziristan.

Traders raise compensation and business concerns

According to Hamzoni, the delegation discussed reconstruction of mosques damaged in Haider Khel, Spin Wam and other areas, as well as the completion of ongoing development schemes.

The jirga also discussed the release of detained persons, an end to military operations, easing restrictions at checkpoints and improving facilities for the public and tourists.

Business representatives also raised matters related to Datta Khel Bazaar, including restoration of commercial activity and compensation for losses suffered during past security operations.

GOC directs action on compensation

During the meeting, Major General Iftikhar Adil Warraich directed the Deputy Commissioner North Waziristan to ensure prompt compensation payments to shopkeepers who were left out during the compensation process after Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

The move, according to the delegation, would help reduce difficulties faced by affected traders.

The delegation expressed hope that the issues raised during the jirga would be resolved on a priority basis to support peace, development and business activity in North Waziristan.
