Islamabad — The National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) launched its new publication, South Asia Maritime Security Paradigm, at a ceremony in Islamabad on Monday. The book compiles analyses from national and international scholars on the changing security environment of the Indian Ocean Region.
Focus on strategic relevance of the South Asia Maritime Security Paradigm
Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, who attended as chief guest, spoke about Pakistan’s maritime potential and the need for strategic planning informed by developments in the wider region.
Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, Director General of the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), delivered the keynote address, outlining the publication’s relevance for regional stability and economic considerations.
NIMA outlines objectives behind the new research volume
Vice Admiral Dr. Ahmed Saeed (Retd), outgoing President of NIMA, described how the publication was developed and said it aims to promote greater understanding of maritime issues in Pakistan.
Rear Admiral Javaid Iqbal, the incoming President of NIMA, acknowledged the contributions of authors, reviewers, and participants at the event.
Event attended by senior officials, analysts and maritime professionals
The ceremony was attended by former Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Aziz Mirza as guest of honour, along with diplomats, government officials, academics, think-tank representatives, strategic analysts, and maritime sector professionals.
Book examines security, governance and climate dimensions in the region
According to NIMA, South Asia Maritime Security Paradigm examines traditional and non-traditional security challenges, technological developments, climate-related issues and maritime governance frameworks affecting South Asia and the broader Indo-Pacific region.
