LAHORE, January 6, 2026: The National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC) has energized the 220kV Quaid-e-Azam Business Park Grid Station in Sheikhupura, a project designed to strengthen power supply for industries operating in the Special Economic Zone.

Completed at a cost of more than Rs. 4 billion under the Government of Pakistan’s Cash Deposit Loan facility, the grid station is intended to provide reliable electricity for large-scale industrial consumers, supporting uninterrupted operations, investment, and job creation.

NGC Managing Director Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik congratulated the project team, noting that dedicated infrastructure for Special Economic Zones plays a critical role in attracting investment and enabling long-term socio-economic growth.

The new facility has a transformation capacity of 500 MVA at the 220/132kV level and is supported by four kilometers of transmission lines connecting to the regional grid. Officials said the configuration will improve voltage stability, enhance resilience, and reduce pressure on existing grid stations in Sheikhupura, Kala Shah Kaku, Bandala (Faisalabad), and nearby industrial zones.

By reducing technical losses and improving supply reliability, the project is expected to cut downtime for industrial consumers, improve productivity, and lower costs. Officials added that the availability of dependable power infrastructure is likely to encourage new investment, accelerate industrial expansion, and strengthen supply chains.

The project was executed under the leadership of Engr. Rashid A. Bhutto, Deputy Managing Director (Asset Development & Management), and Engr. Muhammad Shahid Nazir, General Manager (Project Delivery) North, with support from a team of engineers and technical staff.

The energization follows last month’s commissioning of the 500kV Lahore North Grid Station, marking back-to-back additions to Punjab’s transmission system. NGC said the projects reflect sustained momentum in reinforcing the national grid and meeting growing industrial demand.
