LAHORE, May 4: The National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC) has completed nine major power transmission projects over the past six months, aiming to strengthen the country’s electricity transmission network and improve supply reliability.

The projects, completed since November 2025, include new grid stations, transmission line expansions, and system upgrades that are expected to enhance power flow between regions and reduce load shedding.

Grid stations and capacity upgrades

Among the key developments, NGC completed two major grid stations — 500kV Lahore North and 220kV Quaid-e-Azam Business Park — which have improved transmission capacity from southern to northern Pakistan and enabled electricity supply to an industrial zone in Punjab.

The company also upgraded six autotransformers, ranging from 160 MVA to 250 MVA, at grid stations in Nokhar, Okara, Yousafwala, and Hyderabad. These upgrades have increased system capacity and supported more stable power distribution.

Transmission line expansion

NGC completed the interconnection of the Ghazi Barotha–Gatti transmission line with the 500kV Allama Iqbal Industrial City grid station in Faisalabad. Additional projects include the Nowshera transmission line and a 55-kilometre 220kV Faisalabad West–Lalian transmission line, both of which are ready for energisation.

Several other grid and transmission projects across the country are in their final stages of completion.

Leadership focus on project delivery

Since taking charge in November 2025, NGC Managing Director Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik has prioritised the timely completion of transmission projects. He conducted visits across Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to review progress and engage with field teams.

Malik commended NGC staff for completing projects on schedule, highlighting coordination, safety compliance, and operational efficiency.

Ongoing and future projects

The managing director directed teams to accelerate work on key ongoing projects, including 765kV grid stations at Islamabad West and Mansehra, as well as the Dasu transmission line.

He emphasised maintaining momentum in strengthening Pakistan’s transmission infrastructure through continued coordination and focused execution.
