Peshawar: A one-day seminar titled “NFC Share and Challenges Faced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa” was held at the Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum (SSAQ) Museum Conference Hall, University of Peshawar. The event brought together political leaders, journalists, academics, and students for an in-depth discussion on the financial challenges confronting the province.
Panel discusses NFC framework and inter-provincial fiscal dynamics
Organized by the Society of Economics and Development Students (SEDS) in collaboration with the Development Insights Lab (DIL) and the Business Incubation Center, the seminar explored the technical and political aspects of the NFC Award.
The session was moderated by Dr. Fahim Nawaz, Deputy Coordinator at DIL and Coordinator of SEDS.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Johar Ali welcomed participants and underscored the importance of evidence-based policy dialogue in shaping Pakistan’s fiscal trajectory.
Experts highlight KP’s fiscal responsibilities under NFC Award
Dr. Sajjad Ahmed Jan, Chairman of the Department of Economics, delivered the keynote address. He provided a detailed overview of the National Finance Commission Award, addressing inter-provincial fiscal relations, revenue-sharing mechanisms, and the added financial responsibilities devolved to provinces.
Political leaders present viewpoints on KP’s financial rights
Political figures including Ahmad Kundi (PPP), Shagufta Malik (ANP), Jalil Jan (JUI-F), Kamran Bangash (PTI), Taimur Jhagra (PTI), Inayat Ullah Khan (JI), and Salah ud Din (ANP) shared their views on KP’s fiscal rights, the implications of delayed NFC awards, financial challenges linked to the merged districts, and the need for transparent and equitable distribution formulas.
Journalists stress transparency and public accountability
Senior journalists Lihaz Ali, Fida Adeel, and Mehmood Jab Babar highlighted media perspectives, public expectations, and the role of accountability in fiscal governance.
Seminar concludes with interactive dialogue
In the concluding session, the Vice Chancellor thanked the speakers, organizers, and participants for contributing to what he described as a timely and constructive discussion on one of KP’s most pressing financial issues. The seminar ended with a question-and-answer session and group photographs.
