New University Planned for Karachi

KARACHI  Engineer Anwar Ali, President of the Sir Syed Foundation and a former first-class cricketer, has announced plans to establish a new university in Karachi, saying the project aims to expand access to modern higher education for the city’s young population.

Speaking to the media at a ceremony held at Naya Nazim Gymkhana, Anwar Ali said Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, needs more universities to meet the growing demand for higher education.

He announced that the foundation stone for Al-Sayed University, a project of the Sir Syed Foundation, will be laid soon.

According to Anwar Ali, the university will initially comprise seven faculties and will focus on providing modern educational opportunities within Karachi so that students do not have to travel abroad to pursue higher studies.

“Our groundwork is complete, and we will soon share this good news with the students of Karachi,” he said.

Anwar Ali added that consultations with like-minded individuals are continuing and that efforts are underway to have the university’s charter approved by the Sindh Assembly.

Former Pakistan Hockey Federation Secretary Haider Hussain welcomed the initiative, saying Karachi urgently needs additional higher education institutions. He also said efforts would be made to provide students with opportunities for healthy recreational and sporting activities.

Other guests at the ceremony also welcomed the proposed university. The former Vice-Chancellor of Nazir Hussain University expressed strong support for the initiative and praised the efforts to establish another higher education institution in Karachi.

The event was attended by a large number of academics and members of the sports community, including vice-chancellors of various Karachi universities, professors, college faculty members and prominent sports personalities.

Pakistan Navy Sports Officer Lieutenant Commander Waseem Abbas, Zia-ud-Din of Zone 6, Muhammad Faheem of Zone 7, Gulfraz Ahmed Khan, Ijaz-ud-Din and Dr. Majid were also present.

Representatives and personalities from the United States and Canada also attended the ceremony.
