A new polio case has been reported in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, taking the total number of polio cases recorded across Pakistan in 2026 to five.
According to health authorities, the National Institutes of Health has confirmed that a 17-month-old girl from Khandar Khan Khel Union Council in Domel tehsil of Bannu has been infected with poliovirus.
This is the fourth polio case reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year. Previously, two cases were reported from Bannu district and one from North Waziristan.
The National Emergency Operations Centre said an anti-polio campaign was conducted in 112 selected districts across the country from September 21 to 27. More than 28.2 million children were vaccinated during the campaign.
Authorities continue to urge parents and caregivers to ensure that children receive all recommended doses of the polio vaccine to maintain protection against the disease.
