A new polio case has been reported in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after health authorities confirmed poliovirus in a 17-month-old girl from the district.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Islamabad confirmed that the child, from Union Council Khandar Khan Khel in Domel Tehsil, has been affected by polio.
This is the fourth polio case reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2026. Two of the province’s cases have been reported from Bannu, while one case was previously detected in North Waziristan.
With the latest case, Pakistan’s nationwide polio tally for 2026 has reached five. Four cases have been reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one from Sindh.
The latest detection highlights the continued presence of poliovirus in parts of the country and the need for sustained vaccination and surveillance efforts to prevent further transmission.
