Fresh leaks surrounding Apple’s rumored iPhone 18e suggest the company is preparing significant upgrades focused on artificial intelligence (AI) performance, memory, and processing power ahead of the device’s expected launch in 2027.
According to reports citing Apple analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu, the upcoming budget-friendly iPhone could receive a RAM upgrade and Apple’s next-generation A20 chip to better support on-device AI features.
RAM Upgrade Could Improve Apple Intelligence
The leaks claim Apple plans to increase the iPhone 18e’s memory from 8GB to 9GB RAM, allowing Apple Intelligence features to run more efficiently.
Reports indicate that Apple Intelligence currently requires at least 8GB of RAM, while some advanced AI capabilities—including enhanced voice features and more complex on-device processing—benefit from additional memory.
New Processor and Display Rumored
According to the latest reports, the iPhone 18e may feature:
- 6.1-inch OLED display
- 1170 × 2532 resolution
- 60Hz refresh rate
- Apple A20 processor built on a 2-nanometer process
- 256GB and 512GB storage options
- 48MP rear camera
- 24MP front-facing camera
None of these specifications have been officially confirmed by Apple.
AI Focus Comes Amid Memory Chip Shortages
Industry analysts note that even a modest increase from 8GB to 9GB RAM is noteworthy, particularly as the global supply of DRAM memory chips remains under pressure.
The reported shortage is largely attributed to major memory manufacturers shifting production toward high-performance chips used for artificial intelligence applications, reducing output of conventional smartphone memory.
Apple Yet to Confirm
The reports also suggest that Apple’s standard iPhone 18 model, expected in March 2027, could also feature 9GB of RAM for the first time.
However, Apple has not officially announced the iPhone 18e or confirmed any of the leaked specifications. As with all pre-release reports, the rumored features should be treated as unconfirmed until the company makes an official announcement.
