Google has rolled out a new feature for Gmail users on Android, aimed at enhancing the security of email addresses.
A major change is being introduced in the Android Gmail app to address a common issue where users accidentally place a contact in the wrong address field. With this update, there will no longer be a need to delete and re-enter the contact.
Announced in an official Google Workspace blog post, this feature aims to prevent email addresses from being mistakenly exposed.
According to reports, if a contact is typed into the wrong address field, such as To instead of CC or BCC, users will not have to delete and retype it. Instead, they can simply drag and drop the contact to the correct field with their finger. For example, a contact in the CC field can be moved to the To field and vice versa.
This feature is intuitive and doesn’t require users to be tech-savvy to understand. For instance, if you’re part of a sales list and your company mistakenly places your address in the CC field instead of the BCC field, your private email address could be exposed to everyone.
Google has announced that the new drag-and-drop feature will be fully available by December 14. It will be accessible to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace individual subscribers, and most importantly, users with personal Google accounts.
