ISLAMABAD: The National Emergency Center of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has projected that the latest hydro-meteorological conditions indicate that high to very high level flash floods are likely in Balochistan.
Mountain torrents and local nullahs of Zhob, Kalat, Nasirabad and Sibbi divisions are likely to experience high to very high flash flood levels which may lead to infrastructure damage. Similarly, mountain torrents and local nullahs D.G. Khan is likely to experience high to very high levels of flash flooding that may result in damage to infrastructure, the news release said.
He added that all villages and towns or settlements near the nullahs, especially along the floodplain, may be affected by increased flows. The northern side of the Kabul River basin and its tributaries have experienced significant rainfall, which is likely to lead to moderate to high flooding in Nowshera as well as the Kabul River tributaries.
“Moderate to high flows in Nowshera may inundate low-lying areas and may cause damage to infrastructure. A GLOF event in Chitral will also increase flows in the Panjkora River and ultimately the Kabul River,” it said.
The NDMA has issued instructions to all concerned departments to take necessary measures to mitigate the possible consequences of floods and extreme weather.
Residents at risk of flooding are advised to stay out of flood waters, find a safe place away from flood-prone areas and use alternative routes to avoid flood-prone areas. NDMA has launched the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App, available on Google Play Store and iOS App Store, to provide timely alerts, advisories and guidelines to the public.
