RAHIM YAR KHAN, September 25 — The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) conducted an industrial disaster response mock drill at Fauji Fertilizer Company’s Goth Machhi facility in Rahim Yar Khan to test preparedness for potential industrial emergencies.
Organised in collaboration with Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC), the simulation exercise assessed emergency procedures, operational readiness and coordination among government departments, emergency services and industrial response teams.
The drill was designed to test how quickly and effectively relevant agencies could respond to an industrial emergency while identifying potential gaps in existing response mechanisms.
A key focus of the exercise was coordination among district and provincial authorities and industrial stakeholders to ensure a timely and organised response in the event of a major industrial incident.
Representatives from the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Health Department, Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, Police, SPD/DESTO, Punjab Industries Department and NDMA participated in the exercise.
Local industry representatives and FFC emergency response teams also took part in the simulation.
According to NDMA, the exercise provided participating organisations with an opportunity to identify operational gaps, test communication channels and improve coordination during industrial emergencies.
The mock drill also focused on strengthening the capacity of relevant stakeholders to operate under a coordinated emergency-response framework rather than responding independently during a crisis.
Industrial emergency preparedness requires coordination between plant-level response teams and government agencies, particularly when an incident could affect workers or surrounding communities.
NDMA said it would continue promoting a proactive approach to disaster risk management by strengthening preparedness, institutional coordination and emergency-response capabilities across Pakistan.
