MARDAN: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minority Wing President and Member of the Provincial Assembly Suresh Kumar has described the national services of former prime minister and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif as an important chapter in Pakistan’s history.
Speaking to a representative of The Public Purview during a special interview, Suresh Kumar said Nawaz Sharif, during his political and governmental tenures, initiated various projects and policies relating to Pakistan’s development, defence, infrastructure, economy and public welfare.
He cited Pakistan’s nuclear tests conducted on May 28, 1998, during Nawaz Sharif’s second government, describing the development as an important milestone in the country’s defence and national security history.
Suresh Kumar also highlighted major infrastructure initiatives associated with Nawaz Sharif’s governments, including the Islamabad-Lahore Motorway (M-2). The 339-kilometre motorway was inaugurated by Nawaz Sharif in November 1997 and became Pakistan’s first motorway, marking a significant development in the country’s modern road infrastructure.
According to Kumar, projects in infrastructure, energy, communications, industry and trade were also pursued under PML-N governments. He said development announcements alone were not sufficient, stressing that timely completion, continuity and delivery of benefits to citizens were equally important.
He said Pakistan currently needed greater economic stability, employment opportunities, improved energy supplies and increased industrial and commercial activity.
Kumar called for political leadership and relevant state institutions to work together to address the country’s economic and development challenges through practical measures.
He also highlighted the role of Pakistan’s minority communities in national development, saying they were contributing to the country’s progress and would continue to play their part in its economic and social advancement.
Kumar’s comments were made in the context of his assessment of Nawaz Sharif’s political record and the contribution of PML-N governments to Pakistan’s development.
