Islamabad:The Sub-Committee of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination has sought audit reports of all expenditures and complete details of development and non-development funds from the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

The meeting, chaired by Mehreen Razzaq Bhutto at Parliament House, reviewed in detail the performance of the Pakistan Sports Board, its expenditures, training programs, and matters related to the promotion of sports.

At the outset of the meeting, Mehreen Bhutto inquired about the absence of the Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board. The Federal Secretary of IPC informed the committee that the DG was abroad in connection with the Commonwealth Games, and that Shahid Islam would represent the PSB in his place.

On a question regarding an inquiry against Shahid Islam, the IPC Secretary stated that an investigation had been conducted in connection with an award, but he was cleared of all charges.

Expressing serious reservations over the large number of officers serving on deputation at the PSB, Mehreen Razzaq Bhutto said that officers coming from outside avail benefits and then leave. She stressed that only qualified and expert individuals should be appointed in the institution.

During the briefing, the committee was informed that 196 training camps had been organized over the last five years, in which 5,208 players and coaches participated. A total of Rs. 358.1 million was spent on these camps.

Mehreen Razzaq Bhutto also emphasized the need to visit and take care of national hero Jansher Khan saying that it is the responsibility of the state to look after its national heroes.

Regarding deputation officers, Mehreen Bhutto said that the PSB had not provided complete information to the committee. She demanded that full details of the perks and privileges given to deputation officers be presented, and that the practice of inducting anyone into the PSB instead ofS professionals must be stopped.

She added that while the intentions of the relevant authorities might be right, it is essential that the committee be provided with all facts and records.
