ISLAMABAD, September 27 — National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Sunday congratulated the newly elected office-bearers of the Rawalpindi Islamabad Bureau Journalists Association (RIBJA) for the 2026-27 term, expressing hope that the new leadership would work effectively for journalists’ welfare and professional interests.
In a statement, the NA Speaker congratulated newly elected RIBJA President Syed Mujahid Naqvi, Senior Vice President Nusrat Abbas Shah, General Secretary Chaudhry Muhammad Shafiq, Joint Secretary Rizwan Tahir Chohan and other office-bearers on their election.
Sadiq said the election of the new leadership reflected the confidence of RIBJA members in their professional capabilities.
He expressed hope that the newly elected office-bearers would play an effective role in promoting the welfare of the journalist community, strengthening professional affairs and addressing issues faced by journalists working in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
Speaker highlights role of journalism
The NA Speaker said journalism plays an important role in democratic systems by raising public awareness and keeping society informed about national and public-interest issues.
He stressed that free, responsible and impartial journalism was important for providing timely information, highlighting public concerns and bringing issues affecting citizens to the attention of relevant institutions.
Sadiq also acknowledged the professional responsibilities performed by journalists based in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, noting their contribution to coverage of important national affairs.
He extended his best wishes to the newly elected RIBJA leadership for the 2026-27 term.
