Muneeb Butt Cleared as Police Drop Allegations in Kidnapping-for-Ransom Case

Police have declared actor Muneeb Butt innocent in a kidnapping-for-ransom case after completing their investigation, prompting his lawyer to ask a Karachi court for permission to withdraw his bail application.

The development came during a hearing at the Administrative Anti-Terrorism Court in Karachi, where the defence argued that Muneeb Butt had been exonerated in the police investigation and was no longer required to pursue pre-arrest bail.

Police investigation finds no evidence against Muneeb Butt

During the hearing, the defence informed the court that the investigating agency had declared Muneeb Butt innocent in its charge sheet and requested permission to withdraw the pending bail application.

According to police, Butt was initially accused of arranging accommodation in Murree for the suspects. However, investigators said the allegation was not substantiated during the investigation, and his name was cleared in the final challan.

Allegations involve kidnapping and cryptocurrency theft

Police said the accused are alleged to have abducted complainant Muhammad Mutaal and stolen cryptocurrency and other valuables worth Rs2.494 million.

Investigators alleged that the incident took place on April 23, when the complainant was abducted from Shahrah-e-Faisal in Karachi. After allegedly taking cryptocurrency and other valuables, the suspects reportedly released him in the Korangi Industrial Area.

Investigation continues against other suspects

Police said one police official, identified as Ghalib, remains absconding in the case.

Other accused named in the investigation include Shahid Sattar, Muhammad Saleem, Aleem, and Wazir Muhammad. Legal proceedings against the remaining suspects are continuing.
