The 34-year-old left-arm pacer was selected in the Platinum category during the draft held at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, securing a contract worth $100,000.

Amir had registered for the tournament as a British citizen, having acquired British nationality in May this year. However, his draft registration lists Pakistan as his country of residence.

He is expected to feature alongside Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, England batter Joe Clarke and South Africa’s Dwaine Pretorius at Kandahar Warriors.

Amir’s British citizenship could mean he does not require a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to participate in the tournament.

The former Pakistan international has represented the country in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20Is. His last international appearance came against Ireland during the T20 World Cup in June 2024.

Meanwhile, diplomatic tensions are reportedly creating uncertainty over the issuance of NOCs to other Pakistani players seeking participation in the tournament.
