Pakistan and China have formalised a new academic partnership as Bahria University and the China Sinology Centre & Industrial Management Co. Ltd. (CSCIM) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to create a Sinology Centre in Lahore. The agreement was concluded during a meeting at CSCIM’s headquarters in Beijing.

A New Platform for Academic and Cultural Cooperation

The upcoming sinology centre aims to strengthen bilateral educational ties by offering resources for language learning, cultural research, and collaborative studies. Officials said the initiative will help students from both countries better understand each other’s traditions, academic approaches, and societal values.

Imran Ul Haque, Director of the Pak-China Study & Research Centre at Bahria University, noted that the project will support long-term people-to-people connectivity and deepen the friendly relationship between the two nations.

Degree Programs and Digital Learning Tools

Under the MoU, the centre will introduce degree programmes focusing on Chinese language, culture, and digital sciences. It will also produce Urdu-Chinese bilingual learning materials and develop an AI-powered language-learning app tailored for Pakistani students.

Facilities to Support Cultural and Academic Growth

Plans for the sinology centre include a library, a traditional Chinese medicine clinic, and a martial arts training space. In addition to degree offerings, the centre will provide certificate courses designed to enhance language skills and professional competencies for students and graduates across disciplines.

Scholarships and Joint Research Opportunities

As part of the collaboration, Bahria University students will gain access to scholarships for study in China, joint degree options, and expanded research opportunities with partner universities. Both institutions may also undertake independent or collaborative projects to advance academic exchange.
