Islamabad: The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has decided to establish a special election commission to oversee the elections of national sports federations. The commission’s primary objective is to ensure the implementation of the sports policy and prevent the formation of parallel federations.
According to sources, the PSB has already initiated the process, and the election commission will monitor the elections and ensure transparency. The PSB has also announced that it will conduct elections for all sports bodies in the country, which may lead to a new crisis in Pakistani sports.
The PSB has notified the election code for the federations’ elections, stating that the PSB’s election commission will conduct elections for all sports bodies. The code also grants the DG Sports Board the authority to order elections in any federation.
The election commission will scrutinize clubs, and the PSB will form a tribunal to address election complaints. The PSB has also directed affiliated federations to adopt the proposed model constitution.Additionally, the PSB has introduced a code of ethics for sports federations and officials, covering issues like bias, harassment, human trafficking, corruption, doping, and age fraud.Violations of the code may result in penalties, including bans ranging from one year to lifetime.
