Pakistani actress Momina Iqbal has spoken publicly about her ongoing dispute with Punjab Assembly member Saqib Chadhar, alleging that she faced harassment, blackmail and threats involving her private photographs and personal material.
In an interview with journalist Irshad Bhatti, Iqbal claimed that she feared her personal life and reputation could be affected by threats to release private material on social media. She also shared her account of how her contact with Chadhar began and disputed some claims previously made about their relationship.
Momina Iqbal Shares Account of Relationship
Iqbal said that when Chadhar approached her family with a marriage proposal, her father initially asked for time before agreeing. She claimed that several months later, messages from Chadhar’s first wife began reaching her, through which she learned that he was already married.
The actress also alleged that Chadhar expected the situation to put pressure on her relationship with her fiancé, Hamza. According to Iqbal, Hamza continued to support her during the dispute.
She described her husband’s support as a major source of strength during what she said was a difficult period.
Actress Disputes Engagement Claims
Iqbal also rejected claims that she and Chadhar had been engaged. She questioned the claim, saying there were no photographs of an engagement ceremony to support it.
During the interview, she reportedly presented chat records and other documents that she said challenged Chadhar’s previously stated timeline concerning their relationship and communication.
Iqbal also denied that her primary objective in the dispute was to obtain money from Chadhar. She said she wanted the facts of the matter to become public rather than seeking a financial settlement. The two sides, however, have differing positions regarding financial matters.
NCCIA Investigation Underway
The dispute has also resulted in legal proceedings. According to the report, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) issued fresh notices to both Momina Iqbal and Saqib Chadhar on September 3 following the emergence of new digital evidence.
A special investigation team was formed to review the new material alongside records from the earlier investigation. The team has been given one month to complete its inquiry and submit its report to the agency’s director general.
The allegations made by the actress remain claims, while the investigation is ongoing.
