ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Television (PTV) batter Mohammad Shahzad has created history by scoring the fastest first-class century by a Pakistani batter during the third round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I.
Shahzad reached his century in just 49 balls against Kingsmen Academy at Diamond Cricket Ground in Islamabad on Thursday, breaking the previous national record held by former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq.
Misbah had scored a 56-ball century against Australia in 2014, a record that had stood for more than a decade. Shahzad surpassed it with an explosive innings featuring 12 fours and eight sixes.
He eventually finished with 114 runs off 62 balls, maintaining an exceptionally high scoring rate throughout his innings.
Shahzad came to the crease when PTV were struggling at 34 for three. His aggressive batting helped revive the innings as PTV reached 285 for seven at stumps on the opening day.
The century was Shahzad’s sixth in first-class cricket. His 49-ball hundred is also reported as the eighth-fastest first-class century in the format’s history.
