Veteran pacer surpasses Imran Khan’s long-standing record after starring against West Indies in the first Test.

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Abbas has become the country’s most successful Test fast bowler in terms of bowling average among Pakistani pacers with at least 100 Test wickets.

The 36-year-old achieved the milestone during the first Test against the West Indies in Tarouba, overtaking former captain Imran Khan’s long-standing record.

Abbas claimed three wickets in the West Indies’ second innings, dismissing Brandon King, Keacy Carty, and Justin Greaves, after taking three wickets in the first innings as well.

His impressive performance took his tally to 115 wickets in 30 Test matches at an outstanding bowling average of 22.78, the best by any Pakistan fast bowler with at least 100 Test wickets.

Previously, Imran Khan held the record with 362 wickets in 88 Tests at an average of 22.81, while legendary pacer Waqar Younis ranks next with a bowling average of 23.56.

Abbas made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2017 but spent more than three years out of the national side before making a successful comeback during Pakistan’s South Africa tour in December 2025.

Since returning to international cricket, Abbas has re-established himself as one of Pakistan’s leading pace bowlers. This year, he has taken 15 wickets in three Test matches, including a five-wicket haul.

Beyond international cricket, Abbas has also enjoyed an outstanding domestic career, claiming 894 wickets in 220 first-class matches.
