ISLAMABAD: Mobilink Bank and JazzCash have launched a cashless bazaar in Chaklala Scheme-III, Rawalpindi, covering around 900 shops and carts as part of efforts to promote digital payments and support Pakistan’s transition toward a cashless economy.
The initiative introduces Raast-enabled QR code payments across the market, allowing customers to make instant transactions through mobile wallets while enabling merchants to receive payments without handling cash. Officials said the move aims to simplify everyday transactions and expand financial inclusion at the grassroots level.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Station Commander Rawalpindi Brigadier Syed Ali Anjum, along with representatives from the State Bank of Pakistan, Mobilink Bank, JazzCash, and local traders.
Digital tools for merchants
Under the initiative, Mobilink Bank will provide Business Plus accounts to participating retailers and offer additional financial services, including access to small business loans, insurance, and financing options for solar and electric vehicle solutions.

Officials said the introduction of digital payment systems in local markets is expected to improve transparency, reduce cash handling risks, and integrate small businesses into the formal financial system.
Push for cashless economy
Representatives from both organisations said the project aligns with broader national efforts to digitise high-frequency transactions in traditional marketplaces, which account for a large share of daily commerce.
They added that expanding QR-based payments in such settings can help accelerate the adoption of digital financial services and make transactions faster, safer, and more accessible for consumers and merchants alike.
The Chaklala Scheme-III initiative is being viewed as a model that could be replicated in other markets across the country to support wider adoption of digital payments.
