Mirpur: The Deputy Commissioner of Mirpur, Yasir Riaz, officially inaugurated the Mobile Food Testing Laboratory for the Mirpur Division, provided by the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The event was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Khawar Ali Shaukat, President of the District Bar Association Chaudhry Mehmood Plakoi Advocate, Vice President of the Bar Chaudhry Gulbahar Hussain Advocate, magistrates, representatives of the Traders’ Association, and officials from the Food Authority.
Additional Deputy Commissioner General Raja Umar Tariq, Assistant Commissioner Raja Zahid Hussain, Tehsildar Imran Yousaf, Deputy Director of Food Ijaz Ahmed Qamar, DFC Muhammad Maroof, Assistant Director of Food Asif Riaz, Veterinary Officer Chaudhry Naeem Kallas, President of the Traders’ Association Suhail Shuja Mujahid, Raja Khalid Khan, Municipal Magistrate Zahid Majeed Sheikh, along with political, social, and business figures, civil society representatives, and members of the print and electronic media were also present at the ceremony.
The Mobile Food Testing Laboratory will allow on-the-spot testing of food items, ensuring quality control and immediate reporting of results. A large number of citizens gathered at the Kayal Chowk as the mobile lab arrived. Officials highlighted that the state-of-the-art vehicle is equipped to conduct all necessary food safety tests, enabling authorities to track and eliminate adulteration in food products. Violators will be identified, traced, and held accountable.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner Yasir Riaz announced that the initial phase of testing would focus on major businesses dealing in mineral water, juices, cooking oil, ghee, and other essential food items. Smaller businesses will be checked subsequently. He emphasized that those involved in food adulteration will not escape legal action.
The president of the Bar, Chaudhry Mehmood Plakoi Advocate, and key representatives of the Traders’ Association highly praised the initiative, calling it a significant step toward ensuring public health and food safety in Mirpur.
