ISLAMABAD: Metro bus services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have been partially suspended as authorities implement heightened security and traffic measures ahead of foreign delegations arriving for US-Iran talks. The restrictions affect daily commuters across the twin cities and are part of a broader plan to manage movement during the high-level engagements.

According to officials, the Metro bus will operate only between Saddar Station and PIMS, while the route from PIMS to Pak Secretariat remains temporarily closed on instructions of the district administration. The move aims to ensure smooth and secure transit for visiting delegations.

Traffic plan and route diversions

A special traffic management plan has been put in place, with several key routes redirected. Motorists traveling from GT Road Peshawar toward Rawalpindi have been advised to use alternative routes, including the Taxila Motorway, Chakri-Chak Beli Road, and Rawat.

Travelers moving from Lahore to Peshawar are also being redirected through Rawat, Chak Beli Road, or the Taxila Motorway to ease congestion in restricted areas.

Commuters from Margalla Road to Rawalpindi have been instructed to use Ninth Avenue, while those traveling from Rawalpindi to Islamabad can access Ninth Avenue via Murree Road. Traffic from Faisal Avenue to Zero Point is also being diverted to Ninth Avenue.

Restrictions on key routes and heavy vehicles

Authorities confirmed that the Islamabad Expressway section from Zero Point to Coral Chowk will remain closed in both directions during the security period.

In addition, heavy vehicles have been banned from entering Islamabad for two days as part of precautionary measures linked to the arrival of foreign delegations.

Officials have advised citizens to plan their travel accordingly and follow the updated traffic guidelines to avoid delays.
