The university’s Superior Council unanimously approved the decision to award Messi the Doctor Honoris Causa, one of the institution’s highest distinctions.
According to the university, the honor recognizes Messi’s exceptional talent, dedication, humility and long-standing commitment to representing Argentina on the international stage.
Messi is scheduled to receive the honorary doctorate on October 6, the same day Argentina is set to face Benin in a special farewell match for the football superstar.
The honorary degree will add another distinction to Messi’s decorated career, which has included major international and club achievements.
