RAJKUT: At least 27 people were killed in a fire at a family entertainment venue in Gujarat, India, on Saturday evening.
Rescue operations are continuing in Rajkot district, Reuters reported.
“Our focus is on rescue operations and saving people. We will ensure that strict action is taken against those responsible for this incident,” said Mayor Nayana Pedadia.
Television images showed a large fire engulfing the TRP pitch and plumes of smoke billowing from the site.
In a post on the social media platform, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the local government is working to help the affected people.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said that the investigation into the incident has been handed over to the Investigative Investigation Team and television reports said that two people have been arrested by the Rajkot police in connection with the incident.
