KARACHI — Mashreq has launched new offshore centres in Karachi and Lahore under its Mashreq Global Network (MGN) Pakistan, as part of efforts to expand digital operations and workforce capacity in the country.
The expansion builds on the bank’s growing presence in Pakistan and follows an investment of more than $40 million to strengthen talent development, technology capabilities and digital banking infrastructure.
According to the company, the new centres are designed to support a distributed workforce model and provide opportunities for skilled professionals across the country. MGN Pakistan currently draws talent from more than 30 cities and has expanded its workforce to over 520 employees in the past three years.
Focus on digital talent and workforce growth
Mashreq officials said the offshore centres will help the organisation tap into Pakistan’s growing pool of digital and financial professionals while enhancing operational efficiency across its global network.
Group Head of Operations Mark Edwards said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen innovation and performance by leveraging regional talent.
Skills development and inclusion
MGN Pakistan has also introduced programmes aimed at upskilling employees, improving career mobility and promoting gender inclusion. Women currently make up around 35% of the workforce, reflecting efforts to improve diversity within the financial sector.
Chief Executive Officer Mashreq Pakistan, Muhammad Hamayun Sajjad, said the expansion aims to create new opportunities for local professionals to contribute to global financial services without relocating abroad.
Growing role in digital finance
Pakistan’s demand for digital financial services has increased in recent years, supported by wider smartphone usage and improvements in digital payment systems. The company said its operations in Pakistan are aligned with this trend, focusing on building technical capacity and supporting financial innovation.
The expansion follows Mashreq’s recent launch of a full-service digital retail bank in Pakistan and partnerships aimed at promoting financial inclusion and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises.
