CM Maryam Nawaz approves Rehmat Card Scheme for widows and orphans in Punjab

LAHORE — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the Rehmat Card Scheme aimed at providing financial assistance to widows and orphans across the province, officials said after a meeting chaired by the chief minister.

Under the program, the provincial government will provide Rs100,000 to each eligible widow and Rs25,000 to each orphan. The initiative is intended to support vulnerable families and expand welfare assistance through the province’s social protection system.

Officials said the scheme will be implemented through the Punjab government’s welfare framework, with registration managed by the Zakat and Ushr Department.

Maryam Nawaz said the government has a responsibility to support people facing financial hardship, particularly widows and children without parental support.

According to officials, eligible applicants will need to visit the nearest office of the Zakat and Ushr Department in Punjab to register for the program and complete the required verification process.

The Rehmat Card Scheme is part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to expand targeted financial assistance for underprivileged communities in Punjab.
