Maritime Security Exercise Sea Guard–2026 Commences in Karachi

A national-level maritime security exercise, Sea Guard–2026, commenced in Karachi on Monday under the auspices of the Pakistan Navy, bringing together key stakeholders from across the country’s maritime sector to enhance coordination and preparedness.

The opening briefing of the exercise was held at Karachi, with Commander Coast Faisal Amin attending as the chief guest. Sea Guard–2026, the third exercise in the Sea Guard series, will continue from February 2 to February 9.

According to the Pakistan Navy, the exercise is a national effort aimed at fostering collaboration among representatives from shipping, fishing, law enforcement agencies, government departments, and the private sector to collectively address emerging and complex challenges in the maritime domain.

The exercise focuses on synchronising the efforts of all stakeholders to ensure safety and security within Pakistan’s maritime zones and adjoining areas. Activities include scenario-based drills and tabletop discussions designed to rehearse and improve mechanisms for maritime protection along the country’s coastline.

Participants were also briefed on the working methodology and effectiveness of the Joint Maritime Information Coordination Centre (JMICC), which plays a key role in information sharing and coordination among maritime stakeholders.

Vice Admiral Faisal Amin lauded the active participation of all organisations involved in the exercise and highlighted the importance of collective efforts in strengthening maritime security. He also acknowledged the role of the media in promoting maritime awareness at the national level.

Senior officials of the Pakistan Navy, leaders of government sector organisations, and representatives from the private and fishing sectors attended the opening event.
