The Small Industries Estate Rashakai, Mardan, has emerged as one of the important centers of Pakistan’s marble industry. This industrial estate is widely known for its thriving marble sector, which has played a significant role in the economic development of the region. Around 270 marble processing factories are operating here, making Rashakai a major hub for marble cutting, polishing, finishing, and trade.
The marble industry in Rashakai has created employment opportunities for thousands, of workers. Skilled laborers, machine operators, technicians, transporters, loaders, office staff, and daily wage workers all depend directly or indirectly on this industry for their livelihoods. In addition, many ancillary businesses such as packaging, machinery maintenance, transportation, and construction material supply have also flourished due to the growth of the marble sector.
The factory owners and exporters are contributing to the national economy by earning valuable foreign exchange through exports of processed marble and granite products. Pakistani marble from Rashakai is supplied not only to domestic markets but also exported to countries in the Middle East, China, Europe, and other international destinations, where it is appreciated for its durability, natural beauty, and competitive pricing.
The region is especially famous for high-quality varieties such as Granite, Badal, Sunny Grey, and Strawberry marble. These stones are admired for their attractive colors, elegant patterns, strength, and smooth finish. They are widely used in the construction and decoration of houses, offices, hotels, shopping malls, mosques, and commercial buildings. Architects and interior designers prefer these stones for flooring, wall cladding, staircases, kitchen countertops, and decorative applications.
The availability of raw material from nearby mining areas and the strategic location of Rashakai near major highways have contributed greatly to the success of this industry. Easy transportation allows marble products to be moved efficiently to different parts of Pakistan as well as to ports for export.
Despite its achievements, the industry also faces certain challenges, including high energy costs, outdated machinery in some units, transportation expenses, environmental concerns related to marble waste, and competition from international producers. Modernization, improved waste management, and government support in the form of incentives and infrastructure development can further strengthen this sector.
In conclusion, the marble industry of Small Industries Estate Rashakai is a valuable economic asset for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan. It provides employment, supports industrial growth, earns foreign exchange, and supplies high-quality construction material to both local and international markets.
