CHAKWAL: A man was wounded in an armed robbery at Dhudial Chowk on Monday evening after assailants opened fire and fled with a cash bag containing Rs2.2 million, police said.
According to officials, three armed men riding a motorcycle intercepted the victim and attempted to snatch his cash bag. When he resisted, one of the suspects fired at him before the group escaped.
The injured man was identified as Zafran Khan, son of Musharraf Khan, a resident of Ratta, Rawalpindi. In his statement to police, he said he works as a salesman at a rice company in Rawalpindi and regularly collects payments from shopkeepers in Rawalpindi and nearby areas, including Dhudial.
He told police that on February 10, after collecting payments from shopkeepers in Daultala, he arrived in Dhudial by public transport. After completing further recoveries, he was waiting at Dhudial Chowk around 6:30pm to return to Rawalpindi when the robbery occurred.
Police said the suspects, described as wearing shalwar kameez, fled towards Rawalpindi Road following the firing. The victim sustained bullet injuries to his arms and was shifted to hospital for treatment.
A case has been registered at Dhudial police station against unidentified suspects under Section 394 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Further investigation is underway.
