KARACHI: Pakistan cricket is reportedly set for major changes in its T20 setup, with captain Salman Ali Agha expected to lose the captaincy and be left out of the squad, according to sources.
Salman Ali Agha, who has already been dropped from the Test setup, is now expected to remain part of Pakistan’s ODI squad only. Sources say discussions are underway over his replacement as T20 captain.
According to the reports, Sahibzada Farhan and Shadab Khan are the leading candidates for the T20 captaincy. Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is also reportedly set to be dropped from the T20 squad, following Haris Rauf’s exclusion.
Shaheen Afridi has taken 136 wickets for Pakistan across formats, while Haris Rauf has 133, according to the figures cited in the report.
Razaullah, who impressed during the Edgbaston Test, is reportedly among the strong candidates for inclusion in Pakistan’s T20 and ODI squads.
Sources further claim that Shaheen Afridi will continue as Pakistan’s ODI captain, while Test captain Babar Azam is expected to remain part of both the T20 and ODI squads.
Pakistan are scheduled to play a three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi from October 9 to 13.
The three-nation ODI tournament is scheduled to take place in Rawalpindi and Lahore from October 18 to 31, with Pakistan, England and Sri Lanka set to participate.
The reported changes have yet to be formally confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
