Islamabad, October 12, 2026: A major development has emerged in the case involving Laiba Ejaz, a student who died by suicide in Islamabad, as the arrested suspect, Nauman, has reportedly admitted to defrauding her, according to sources.
Police have also reopened a sealed FIR to advance the investigation.
According to sources, Nauman came into contact with Laiba in February this year through her friend, Aiza Fatima. Laiba and Aiza had jointly started an online TikTok shop business, but the venture was unsuccessful.
Sources said Aiza had a brother, Azhar, who was living in the United States. Laiba had reportedly asked Aiza to help her obtain a US visa.
Investigators allege that Nauman later contacted Laiba using another phone number while impersonating Aiza. He also allegedly created a fake Gmail account in the name of Aiza’s brother, Azhar, and used both accounts to communicate with the student.
According to the sources, Nauman allegedly used artificial intelligence to prepare documents purportedly related to Laiba’s student visa.
Police have obtained part of the chat history between Nauman and Laiba. The suspect’s mobile phone has been sent for forensic examination to collect further evidence and establish additional details surrounding the case.
The investigation is ongoing. The allegations remain subject to verification through forensic findings and other evidence collected by police.
