RAWALPINDI: Pakistan set a new home record in T20 International cricket after young batter Maaz Sadaqat delivered a spectacular innings against Sri Lanka in the second T20I.
Sadaqat scored 96 off just 51 balls, narrowly missing his maiden international century by four runs. His explosive knock helped Pakistan post 215 for three in their allotted 20 overs in Rawalpindi on Sunday.
His innings featured six fours and seven sixes, putting Sri Lanka’s bowling attack under considerable pressure.
The total is Pakistan’s highest-ever score in a T20 International on home soil, surpassing their previous record of 208 for three against the West Indies in Karachi in 2021.
Overall, the 215-run total ranks as Pakistan’s second-highest score in T20 Internationals. Their highest remains 232 for six, recorded against England in Nottingham in 2021.
Sadaqat also shared an important 88-run partnership for the second wicket with captain Sahibzada Farhan, providing momentum to Pakistan’s innings.
His seven sixes equalled the record for the most sixes hit by a Pakistani batter in a single T20 International innings.
The performance is particularly impressive considering that Sadaqat was playing only his second T20 International. He had also scored a half-century on his international debut, underlining his promising start to his international career.
