ISLAMABAD — The Lahore University of Management Sciences and Allied Bank have entered into a research and development collaboration to explore the use of robotics and human-robot interaction in banking, aiming to improve customer experience and service delivery.

The agreement, signed by officials from both institutions, focuses on applying emerging technologies in real-world banking environments. The initiative is expected to support innovation in customer interaction, digital services, and assistive banking solutions.

Focus on human-robot interaction

Under the collaboration, a Pepper robot has been deployed at the CHISEL Lab at LUMS as a research platform. The project will examine how robotics can support customer engagement, streamline services, and enhance accessibility within banking environments.

Selected solutions developed through the research will be tested in operational settings, including Allied Bank’s digital lounges, to evaluate usability, scalability, and customer response.

Industry-academia collaboration

The partnership will be overseen by a joint innovation steering group, which will guide research activities and assess outcomes. Expected results include prototype development, pilot testing insights, and potential academic publications.

Officials from both institutions said the collaboration is intended to strengthen links between academia and industry while advancing the use of technology in financial services.

Future outlook

The initiative reflects a broader shift toward integrating advanced technologies into banking systems. By focusing on robotics and human-centered design, the project aims to contribute to more efficient and responsive customer service models.
