A literacy center has been inaugurated in District Jail Timergara to educate illiterate prisoners, with the collaboration of the jail administration, NCHD (National Commission for Human Development), and the Al-Marwan Trust. Teachers have also been arranged for this purpose. The literacy center will provide basic education to over 40 prisoners aged between 15 and 55.
The center was officially inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner Lower Dir, Bashir Khan, and Superintendent District Jail Timergara, who cut the ribbon during the ceremony. Various notable individuals attended the event, including District Coordinator for Madaris Registration and Facilitation, Murad Ali, NCHD Assistant Director Ishtiaq Ahmad, Shahid Rahim, Zubair Khan, Ashfaq Khan, Asad Khan, and Baqi Mand Khan.Addressing the attendees, Additional Deputy Commissioner Bashir Khan and other guests emphasized that age is no barrier to acquiring education. They stated that the provincial government aims to provide every citizen with the light of education. In line with this vision, a literacy center has been established in District Jail Timergara so prisoners can also become productive members of society.
Jail Superintendent Ayub Bacha highlighted that, along with other facilities, special attention is being given to the education and training of prisoners, enabling them to gain better education during their sentence and reintegrate into society. The initiative was warmly welcomed by the prisoners, who expressed happiness and appreciated the government for providing this educational opportunity.
