Shangla: Three members of a family were killed while three children survived after lightning struck a house during heavy rain and thunderstorms in a village near Alpuri in Shangla District, local officials and residents said.
The incident occurred late Tuesday night in the upper area of Achar in Lilonai, a suburban locality near the district headquarters Alpuri, when severe rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning hit the region.
According to local sources, a bolt of lightning struck a residential house, killing three members of the same family on the spot. The victims were identified as Yar Muhammad, his wife Taj Bibi and their young son Murad Ali.
The lightning strike caused significant damage to the house and triggered panic among residents in the surrounding area.
Children survive lightning strike
Despite the tragedy, three children who were inside the house at the time miraculously survived the lightning strike, residents said.

Rescue teams and local residents rushed to the scene soon after the incident and began relief operations. Rescue personnel recovered the bodies from the damaged house and handed them over to family members after completing necessary procedures.
Community calls for assistance
The incident has left the local community in mourning. Residents expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the affected family.
Local elders have urged the district and provincial administrations to provide financial assistance and support for the surviving children, who lost their parents and sibling in the incident.
Recent heavy rains and thunderstorms across parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Shangla district, have raised concerns among residents about the risk of further weather-related incidents.
Community members have also called on authorities to raise public awareness about safety precautions during thunderstorms and lightning to help prevent similar tragedies.
